McKinsey: The crisis- Mobilizing boards for
change
As companies grapple with uncertainty of a magnitude that few have
experienced before, their boards should begin by questioning
fundamental strategic assumptions: Is our view of the market
realistic? Does our financing strategy take into account the new
conditions? Should we reset the incentive scheme or abandon any
approach based on share prices? Can we exploit the current glut of
talent? How can we take advantage of the pain our competitors are
experiencing?

Annual Letter to Shareholders from Berkshire
Hathaway
Berkshire Hathaway Inc, Warren Buffett's insurance and investment
company, is in the midst of one of its worst stretches since he took
over the company in 1965. Berkshire's shares have lost close to half
their value since December 2007. Investment losses have piled up as
stock markets tumble. And tens of billions of dollars are at risk on
derivative contracts that depend on stocks rising. All this makes
Buffett's annual letter to Berkshire shareholders, one of the most
eagerly awaited in the career of the 78-year-old billionaire, the
second-richest American according to Forbes magazine.

Performing an audit of internal control in an
integrated audit
The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) has issued a new reference
source for public company auditors that provides lessons learned
from integrated audits of internal control over financial reporting
(ICFR). Among its suggestions, the report offers practical pointers
about performing an integrated audit, notes the benefits of a
top-down, risk-based approach to emphasize areas where material
risks are most likely, and also the advantages of maintaining an open
line of communication between the auditor, company management
and the audit committee.
